Hulu, along with Morgan Spurlock, produced a series of shows following around a person of interest for a day. These are mostly well known celebrities, but on the recommendation of a fellow dance aficionado, I watched the episode about Misty Copeland. She’s a soloist for the ABT, the only black woman. She speaks a lot about being the only person of color in her classes, and is designing dancewear for women who are, as they say, packing a little extra in the trunk.
I adore her for forging ahead in an industry that didn’t have a lot of role models, for being a role model herself to young girls who think they can only do hip hop or modern, and most of all, making it into one of the premiere ballet companies and starting her training at 14 at a Boys & Girls Club. For those of you who aren’t dancers, that’s extremely late.
She is an inspiration! Watch this!
